HER STORY.

the before Born to parents who should not have been together and who definitely shouldn't have had a kid. They fought constantly and moved around a lot chasing the next get-rich-quick scheme. Maryle never really had a chance to find her place in the world and became chaotic, emotional, and difficult to control. Spending most of her childhood alone, doing whatever she wanted, she explored things like chemical reactions and cutting wood with an axe. You know, safe kid things. Despite her rebellious streak, she performed well in school, at least on paper. She was always causing a bit of trouble.
the fall Everything was suddenly just a different kind of shit initially. But then they were all chipped, and... well, things were actually fine with her parents. Fine with her, too. Would you look at that!
the ~~golden~~ veiled years Despite a rough start as a child, she got into Harvard where she completed her undergrad degree before going on to get her PhD. For whatever reason her implant always seemed to be having little hiccups, bleedthroughs and emotional outbursts and dreams disrupting her otherwise mundane life, to the point where the whole thing was already required replacement when she was 20. Everything evened out once again, and she continued on with her life.
the deactivation Her life was fine. Great, even. But then there was Dom, who Maryle cared for and trusted, who then proceeded to completely fuck up her life by 'rescuing her from the Veil' or whatever the hell. She was brought to the Unveiled city in Laos to recover, where she adjusted just about as poorly as you can. Dom was there, too, an outlet for all her bubbling over fear and rage and hurt, along with her desperate grasping at something to not feel so alone. That grasping turned into something a little more, as it often does with two damaged people, and a messy whirlwind of a relationship swallowed up Maryle and Dom.
the now She spent a good two years trying to figure out how to be a person again in Laos. A person she didn't want to be, but a person she knew she needed to be. She knew this was technically better. She also knew that people needed to have the same freedom as her. An amicable split from Dom as he headed off to another mission made her take stock of things. Maybe she could do some good too. She joined up with the Dislinked not long after Dom left, ready to actually use her skills again. And while she knows she's doing what's right, damn if she doesn't miss all those good feelings and the aurora in the sky, connecting her to everyone else.
